Politics and the English language by Orwell

Politics and the English language talks of how the moral decay in politics has contaminated the language and  this contamination has spread to other areas through imitation. He notes that it is like a chain reaction and for most people to avoid the temptation of imitation would be difficult. This is producing a loss of meaning and the contamination has made people do such experiments with language that rids it of clarity and meaning. His thoughts in this area are sensible and unless you believe every word spoken to you and hesitate from exercising personal judgement, you cannot help being apart of this contamination. The politicians who speak like machines and use catchy phrases are just trying to take people away from meaning to meaninglessness. Orwell suggests a few ideas like writing in active voice and not using the dying metaphors. There is more in his essay worth reading. If one can read patiently, it turns out to be a highly interesting read ridiculing political machinery and the lies it has produced.
